During the last six weeks of the schoolyear, Scottish Rite classes at North Elementary have been interrupted so 2nd grade students may be tested for dyslexic characteristics. Students at South Elementary in 4th grade are busy completing Book 4, which involves learning prefixes, suffixes, vowel digraphs, diphongs, and syllable division patterns. Students in 5th and 6th grade are not only finishing the last book,Book 7,which teaches Greek combining forms, but are also completing the Scottish Rite program. I will really miss each of them, but will continue to monitor their progress next year.
Students enrolled in the Scottish Rite Program are receiving direct instruction in alphabet skills, phonemic awareness, spelling, decoding, language skills, and reading comprehension.
They are encouraged to read at least 15 minute every day. All students at North & South have been given a homework folder. Please check and initial when they have completed an activity. Thank you for being a partner in their learning. Students who do their homework and return it signed receive prizes each 6 weeks.
I am at North Elementary from 7:45-10:15 each morning. The rest of the day, I am at South Elementary. My conference period is 2:45-3:30. Please feel free to contact me during this time.
