Library Rules
Students at South Elementary may only check out ONE book at a time from the library. If a book is lost, the student may not check out another book until the lost book is found or paid for in full. These regulations help keep our circulation running smoothly!
Library Classes
Students come to the library once every two weeks during their reading classes. During this time, students may re-check their books, get new books, or simply find a cozy place to read! Of course, students may also come to the library on an individual basis if they have a pass from their teacher.
Accelerated Reading
90% of the books in our library are a part of the Accelerated Reading program. Therefore, students are highly encouraged to check-out materials on their individual reading levels. Each book has its own point values as well, so each student can accumulate AR points every time they take an AR test for that book.

Because of budget limitations, we will not be able to launch the AR store this year. However, students are still able to earn tickets for every five AR points they receive. Each six weeks, one student from each grade level will win a gift card! Students who meet their goals each six weeks also receive a free popsicle in the cafeteria! YUM!
Meet your Librarian!
Hello everyone!
My name is Abby Moore, and this is my first year as a librarian! I am SO excited to be involved with this wonderful library, and I hope to continue to improve it as the years progress. While I may be new to this library, I am certainly not new to South Elementary. Actually, I attended South Elementary as a student from 1993-1996! I graduated from Breckenridge High School in 2002 and earned my bachelors degree in Reading/English/Language Arts education in 2006. I then returned to South where I taught 5th grade reading for three years. In the summer of 2008, I decided to move forward in my educational career. I have always loved to read, and the library was always my favorite place in the school. So, I decided to pursue my masters degree in Library and Information Sciences through the University of North Texas. I currently have just one more semester of classes to go before I complete my degree. I will be taking the School Librarian Certification test next semester as well. It is so fun using what I learn in class in my actual library here at South. I hope to use what I learn to make it an even more exciting place to be!
