Weekly Homework |
Each week, students are to read at least 30 minutes at home and fill out a homework reading log (which they get every Monday at school). Parents must sign the log each time their child reads in order to get credit. Those who turn in completed logs receive a 100. Those who don't turn in a log or have an incomplete log will receive a 50.

Missing Assignments |
Missing assignments, except for homework reading logs, can always be made up. If you notice that your child has a missing assignement, have them talk to me at school and I will get them another copy of the assignment. I do try to make sure all students get their work made up, but sometimes it may take a little while to do so. If we work together, we can get it done much more quickly. I will do everything possible to help make your child successful.

What Good Readers Do |
In class, we talk about what good readers do. So far, we have discussed the following:
1. Good readers create movies in their heads while they read.
2. Good readers make predictions before, during, and after they read.
3. Good readers summarize stories they read.
4. Good readers use clues to make inferences.
5. Good readers use "fix-up" strategies to figure out unknown words:
A. Think about what they already know about the word.
B. Read the sentences around the word.
C. Look for clues that help tell them what the word means.
D. Substitute it with another word.
5. Good readers ask questions while they read.

Vocabulary Words |
Each week, students get a new list of ten vocabulary words. They have a test on these words each Friday. Click on the "Printable Pages" link to download the week's words.
