We work hard in our Literacy Groups. The students read many different kinds of books. They will begin to bring a book home each night except Friday to read. This book will be in a special folder, and this book and folder need to be brought to school each day.

We write about ourselves, our families, books, and things that have happened. Mostly, we write about things that we know about and are very familiar with. Last week we wrote "I Can See" sentences on the chart paper.

The children will need to learn many high frequency words. These are words that they use frequently when talking, will see frequently when reading, and will need frequently when writing. We will make a word wall with these words as they learn them. Then they will need to be able to find words that they need to use. We will be playing word wall games to help them do that. We have started learning high frequency words. So far, we have worked on a, blue, I, red, yellow, can, look, my, at, and, see, the, is, it, in, big, have, little, like, not, do, to, you, that. We are not learning any new high frequency words this week since we are doing our Benchmark Testing for the end of the first six weeks.

Each week we work on language by learning a new poem. We will say it together each day. Then on Friday, each will say it individually. They seem to love learning the poems. We do not have a new poem for this week. We are doing Benchmark Testing.
