Each day, we write the daily news. The daily news is any news that the kids feel is important to share that day. We write the news together and talk about capitals, periods, exclamation marks, question marks, leaving spaces between our words, and writing our thoughts from left to right across the page-sweeping back when we run out of room. This gives us an opportunity to master the techniques of writing while also discussing important information that the children feel is important.

Grubs!!! Mrs. Boles brought big grubs to school for us to investigate! We looked them up on the internet and found out that they like to live in the dirt and eat roots. We also learned that they go through a metamorphosis and turn into beetles! We watched them burrow into the dirt and we felt the prickly hair on their bodies. We observed as they crawled along the dirt. Grubs are so interesting!

We have introduced the penny. The children each receive 10 cents to buy items at the money store. The decisions they make are tricky. They have to decide whether they want to use all their money for one item, or buy less expensive items so they can have more things to take home. Lots of thinking time is required and we get better at our decision making every day. Ask us about the money store!!
