Third Grade News

Hello!

We are in our 6th Six Weeks. Summer vacation time will be here soon. I know students and parents are excited!

In reading, we are still learning new skills and polishing previously learned skills. We will be working on novels for the next few weeks. Please ask your child what they know about the story.

Library and AR Reading-The students are able to check out two books on their level each time we go to the library. They should be reading their books anytime they finish their classwork early and at home during the week. They have the opportunity to take the booktests during the day.

In math, we are learning multiplication and division facts, learning about fractions, still working on regrouping in subtraction, word problems, geometry, symmetry, congruent shapes, and decimals. Any practice at home you can give will greatly benefit your child. Remember, we are working towards being ready for the TAKS Math test on Tuesday, April 29.

In science, we are discussing
animals and their habitats. We have butterflies and ladybugs in our class at this time. Please ask your child to name the 4 stages in the life-cycle of a butterfly, and the 3 stages in an insect's life-cycle and allow them to let you share with them how much they know.

In social studies, we are studying about communities--past and present.

In spelling, we continue to practice spelling by writing the words three times each, spelling triangles, and in alphabetical order, which helps the students be able to look up items in the dictionary and encyclopedia much easier. It is important that your child studies the words and do their homework every night for greater success.

NO TUTORING.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to send a note or call.

HOMEWORK NOTES
THANKS-Thank you for doing your part to see that homework is done each night, including listening to the reading story on Monday nights. I hope you can make it "quality time with your child" and enjoy the time as reading with them does improve their reading. Also, practicing their math facts with them is tremendous help.

REMEMBER-Education is very important to each of us, and school is a good place to be each schoolday. Your child is greatly missed when they are absent.
