This year, why don't you and your child work together as a team to spell the difference between a so-so year and a great one for your BJH student? Here are some ideas you might want to consider:
1. Want your eighth grader to be excited about education? How you talk about school makes a big difference in your child's attitude. Show support for teachers by staying in contact throughout the year and attending school functions. You'll be sending a strong message that his/her school is important to you, too.
2. Encourage you child to participate actively in class. Taking notes, following along and asking questions all keep your middle grader "plugged in" to learning. It will mean better grades at report card time.
3. Help your child set goals for the year, such as improving his keyboarding skills. Examples: Review new and acquired keyboarding keys/skills every day after school (using good posture, of course); start studying for tests as soon as they are announced. |
I welcome your child to BJH Computer Technology class.
The first 2 six week periods will be spent learning touchkeying skills, which include good posture habits. Please encourage your child to continue to practice every day. I cannot overemphasize the benefits of practice.
When your student misses class, please encourage him/her to come by and make up their work. They are allowed one day per day of absence. After that time, they can still make up work, but they will receive a maximum grade of 70. They will receive a zero for any work they ignore. Students will be touchkeying all year as well as using word processing software to produce a variety of documents, constructing spreadsheets, charts and tables, building databases, designing brochures and posters, letterheads and business cards, creating Power Point slide presentations, creating animations, and drawing. We have to move pretty fast around here. All of their hard word prepares them to move on to high school and utilize their computer skills in their coursework.
My goal as a teacher is that each student be successful. Learning about computers and how to use them is vital for your child's future in school as well as in real life.
Please read the parent letter your child receives/received on the first day of school. My conference period is 1:10-1:56 each day.
Thank you,
