Mrs. Dye
  Ms. Lisa Dye

Hello! My name is Lisa Dye.
Welcome to the second grade dual language program. For those of you who don't know me I'ld like to give you a little background on my self. My husband is also a teacher. He teaches Math at the High School. We have 3 children, our oldest daughter is in college, our son is a Junior at BHS, and our 2nd daughter is at BJHS.

I am certified in Kindergarten through eigth grade. I have taught first, second and third grade. This is my 8th year at North Elementary. I enjoy my job and appreciate the chance to be a part of your child's life. I believe teaching is much more than academics.
I am especially excited about the opportunity to do dual language. I feel that this program is full of possibilities.

I need your help for our children to have a successful year. Please check and sign your child's Tuesday folder. Each week there is important information for you to read. Each child must record their daily homework in their language folder. Please just initial at the bottom of the day each night. Students will miss recess if their assignment form is not signed. In the Tuesday folder you will also see if you child has recieved any check marks during the week. If you have any questions please call me at 559-6511 or set up a conference.

Reading
In Language Arts we are working on the different types of sentences - statements, questions, commands and exclamations. We have learned that the subject of a sentence is the who? or what? that the sentence talks about. We are also learning parts of speech. Ask us to demenstrate our sentence jingle and our noun jingle.

Other skills include compound words, suffixes and, next week, contractions.

In Reading have begun literacy work stations. This is INDEPENDENT work time for the students. They must read and follow the directions for each activity. All activities are a review for them or something we are currently working on.

Please make a point to listen to your child read each night. This is a crucial time in your child's life of reading. My goal is for each student to enjoy reading and have lifelong desire to read.
Math
We are working hard on place value to the hundreds place

We are counting money. This can be very challenging for children this age. It would be helpful if you could help your child by having them count some coins for you occasionally.
Science and Social Studies
In science we are investigating marvelous matter - the effect of heat on different matter.

In Social Studies our focus is on communities, differences and similarities and how we are affected by what is happening in our own community.
We are also working on our map skills. Your child should know the directions on a map and how to use the compass rose.
Other people on campus that your child will be familiar with:
Susan Fambrough - principal
Kenna Grone - counselor
Barbara Collinsworth - P.E. teacher
Mrs. Pevey - Title I Reading
Mrs. Thurmon - Title I Math

The number at school is 559-6511 or my home number is 559-3853. Let's work together to make this a great year.
