Helping your child do well in school
PARENTS MATTER! What parents do at home can be very important in children's school success. Research studies have found that what you do to help your child is more important than how much money or education you have. Parents that are more involved with their child's education are able to get their children to do more homework. And research has shown that students who do more homework learn more.
Here are four steps you can to to help your child be more successful in school.

*READ TOGETHER: spend about 15 minutes or more every day and read something interesting to your child. You can also listen to your child read something to you.

*USE TV WISELY: Limit the amount of TV your child watches. Help your child select programs to watch. Watch programs with your child so you can discuss them.

*CREATE AND MAINTAIN FAMILY ROUTINES: set up daily family routines, routines help children by making their life more predictable and enjoyable.
Kids should have a regular time for doing homework, eating meals, and going to bed.

*HAVE HIGH STANDARDS FOR YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOLWORK: Set realistic goals so that your child can meet the goal with some effort. Encourage your child to work hard to reach his goals. Be sure to reward your child for the effort he makes in doing his homework and schoolwork. This can be in the form of praise, or tangible rewards.
