The mission of the Journalism class is to provide students with a working knowledge of how student-driven newspapers and yearbooks are published. Journalism students are expected to apply this knowledge as they create a monthly junior high newsletter and a yearbook, which will be printed in February.
Newspaper
This 6 weeks, students are facing a crash course in newspaper 101. The focus is on learning how to find the angle of a newsworthy story, how to conduct interviews, how to write various types of news stories, and how to publish a cohesive paper.
Yearbook
Currently, students are discussing what the theme of this year's annual will be as they also start deciding on a cover design.
Photography
Each Journalism student will be responsible for taking pictures for both the newspaper and the yearbook. Occasionally, this will require attendance at extra-curricular events.
