Business Computer Information Systems II
Class Period: 4th

This course will focus on the development of technology skills and applications for personal or business situations with the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, presentation management, telecommunications/Internet, and emerging technologies.

OBJECTIVES

 The student will develop skills necessary to address a changing business environment.
 The student will develop skills for success in the workplace.
 The student will appraise the components of productivity.
 The student will examine employment opportunities in various business environments.
 The student will relate concepts of integrity and confidentiality to the business environment.
 The student will analyze and implements appropriate technology as tools to address business needs.
 The student will apply a presentation system.
 The student will design solutions to mathematical business problems using spreadsheet technology.
 The student will follow procedures of data management.
 The student will apply a publishing system.
 The student will analyze computer operating systems and emerging technologies.
 The student will identify the concepts of a computer network.
 The student will demonstrate procedures for maintaining the security of computerized information.

Pen/Pencil, 1 subject spiral notebook or notebook paper

TARDINESS

Students will be ruled as tardy if they are not in the classroom before the tardy bell rings. A tardy will be within (15) fifteen minutes after the tardy bell.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES

It is vital that you are in this class; however, if you are absent YOU are responsible for getting the assignments from another student or the teacher. If you know you will be out for an extracurricular activity, let me know in advance so you can get the assignment ahead of time. Make-up work is your responsibility. If you are absent, you will have make-up work. If you leave early for any reason, you will still be expected to turn in your work on time. You may come in during tutorials, before, or after school to complete assignments. Make-up must be completed within 5 regular class days of excused absence (unless extenuating circumstances occur, i.e. lengthy illness). This must be discussed with the teacher. Unexcused absences may receive a grade of 0 on daily assignments. If you are tardy, you may have missed some important information. When you come in, quietly sign the tardy sheet and be seated.

ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS

If is difficult to assign homework for this class; however, if you do have an assignments outside of class, you are expected to complete it. You will have projects throughout the year that will require time outside of class.

CLASSROOM GUIDELINES

 This class moves fast, so stay on task.
 Listen carefully. Respect each other and pay attention.
 Please be careful using the equipment and textbooks.
 Homework will be RARE as long as class time is used to its fullest!!
 If a student knows of a test or an assignment due on the date of the absence, the work will be due upon the day the student returns to school.
 Completed assignments MUST be placed in the appropriate basket in order to be graded. Place your name, date, class period, and assignment name on all papers turned in.
 If the assignment is done on the computer, the assignment MUST be in your folder in order to receive credit for the assignment.
 Assignments will be past due at the end of class on the day following the date of the assignment unless otherwise noted on the board or by the teacher.
 Assignments that are more than 3 days past due will NOT be accepted.
 Extra credit work is available upon request; however, you must request the extra credit work. Extra credit assignments will NOT be assigned if you have missing assignments. Extra credit assignments MUST be turned in by the 5th Friday of the six weeks. No exceptions.
 The telephone in this room is used only for emergency reasons. Please do not ask to use the telephone unless it is an emergency.
 Six week projects are due the (5th) FIFTH week of the six weeks. If you will not be in class on the day the project is due, you must turn in the project in advance to receive full credit.
 Students are not allowed in the following areas unless permission is granted by the teacher (not a substitute teacher): teacher’s chair, teacher’s desk, files, closet, and file cabinets.
 Cell phones, Headphones, CDs, MP3 players, CD players, etc. are not allowed inside the classroom and will be confiscated.
 Academic integrity is expected of all students. Do your own work.
 Any attempt at hacking or other abuse of computer privileges will be subject to disciplinary action.
 Students are not allowed to alter computer settings, load software, or change files in any way. You are expected to stay in the program assigned.
 Please take care of school property. A student is subject to disciplinary action for damaging school property and will be required to pay for repair or replacement.
 When you leave the classroom, straighten your workstations, Put all supplies and books away. Throw trash in the proper containers and push in your chair.

CLASSROOM RULES

 Keep work area neat and clean
 Be in your assigned seat to avoid disciplinary referral
 No writing on desk, computers, or mouse pads
 Absolutely no food or drinks
 No downloads of any type are allowed

Remember: Computer lab usage is not a right … It’s a privilege!

This is a full year course. There will be no semester exemptions at the end of the first semester. Second semester will be in accordance with the student handbook.
