Course Description
Students learn the basic skills and safety measures essential in the field of welding. Course content includes Tool Identification, Different Measuring Devices, Oxy-Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding and touches on Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Also covered is math for welders, blueprint reading, welding symbols and welding safety.
Classroom rules
q Be on time!!!
q Bring supplies needed for class i.e. paper, pencil, folder etc. everyday
q Be quiet and courteous to others during instruction
q Each student is required to keep a daily journal of activities
q Rules in student handbook and code of conduct also apply
Shop rules
q Shop specific rules will be covered in class
q All students must pass a shop safety test with a 100% before anyone is allowed in the shop.
q Absolutely NO HORSEPLAY in the shop. (This can cause you to be removed from this class).
q Students must bring their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to class everyday. Failure to do so will reflect on your participation grade.
Grading Policy
25% Daily participation grade
q You will be graded daily in the shop on your participation.
25% Weekly test grade
q You will be tested frequently on your ability and skill level on learned practices.
25% Project grade
q Along with small projects to prove mastery of certain applications, you will be required 1 large project per semester.
25% Six weeks grade
q A skill test will be given at the end of each six weeks

q 1 pair of safety glasses (must be Z87 rated)
q 1 pair of welding gloves (must be welding gloves)
q 1 binder
q Pencils
o Regular #2
o Silver Lead
