Hello! My name is Ruth Spivey and it is my job to keep the computer lab up and running smoothly. I am also here to assist our classroom teachers in troubleshooting their classroom computers and helping them with their technology needs. This is my 15th year as an employee at East Elementary.

Our kindergarten classes come to the computer lab twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. The first grade has computer lab three times a week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The kindergarten and first graders are working in the SuccessMaker program. They are working on Reading and Math in the program. When they finish their work in SuccessMaker the students may spend the remainder of class doing the learning game of their choice.

The SuccessMaker program offers interactive learning activities in reading and language arts and mathematics. At the beginning of the course the students are assessed and placed at their individual skill level. The program offers a management system that makes it easy for teachers to monitor, assess, and direct the progress of each student.

Wow! Can you believe we are into the second semester? The school year is moving along so quickly. Our students are growing and learning by leaps and bounds. It is awesome to watch as they enter the lab and go right to their computers and "log in" with their user names and passwords unassisted. They have come so far!
